I enjoyed this issue of the newsletter and had two thoughts:

1) Two of things I most often tell new writers when they ask, am I really a writer? I say "Well, writers write." And when they ask how, I tell them simply put butt in seat. As we agree, it's the only way.

2) Your gloss of Wallace highlights the similarity of his view of consciousness and the result of a deep meditation practice, where the practice focuses on developing a constant attention to the process of cognition itself.

Looking forward to your reading and responses into the new year!

"Put butt in seat". Amen to that. If only I could do that more often 😃. For some reason I find it easier to "put butt in seat" to read than to write these days. I guess there is a limit to the butt's tolerance to being seated.

On your second point, he develops this point fully in "This is Water" which I think you would love if you haven't already read the text/ listened to the speech.

Hmmm...you've brought up two topics that are of interest; first what I'm reading and what I will read in 2025. Right now I'm reading The Wind Knows My Name by Isabel Allende. I'm on my second book of hers, both historical fiction. The stories read at a pace hard to put down. Simultaneously I'm re-rreadimg M Train by Patti Smith. She has always fascinated me.

On the subject of what to write. I at times have that same quandary. When that happens I write about nothing. My last entry here is about day to day stuff.
