Hi Friends,
Greetings from Brooklyn.

If you’re in New York, I recommend going to see the Whitney Museum’s latest exhibition of Edward Hopper’s work. It’s a deep dive into the painter’s relationship with New York and his trouble coming to terms with a rapidly changing city.
Until next time,
Florian
Weekly Wisdom
🤖 Robots & Writers: It’s easy to read news headlines or scroll through screenshots of AI-generated poetry and think “that’s it, humans writing will soon be a thing of the past”. But a more interesting take might be how we’ll integrate AI into the writing process to make it better. In his piece, Dan Shipper explains how he uses AI to do anything from getting his creative juices flowing to summarizing complex ideas all the way to sounding more like his idol, Annie Dillard.
👯 Better Conversations: This piece by Sasha Chapin is one of the most lucid and elegant takes I’ve read about the craft of conversation. He invites us to consider the almost infinite opportunities we have to nudge a conversation into a more meaningful direction.
🗽 New York for San Franciscans: For a second, I thought this piece was serious but it quickly took a hilarious turn. You’ll enjoy this if you live in New York but even more if you also spent time in San Francisco.
Lateral Thought
“The moral of every great person’s story seems to be that they were not trying to retell another’s. Indeed, one of the paradoxes of advice seems to be that those most likely to be asked for it are least likely to have taken anyone else’s: their projects of ‘becoming’ are the most particularized of all.”
